The First Frame (or what will be, at least)

Today Brown Santa brought me the tubes, BB, dropouts, and various other sundry braze-on items for Butter Prototype #1. Cutting and mitering of tubes should commence later this week, as soon as I get the final frame design down ( and I know that everything is going to fit). Hopefully it will be built within 2 weeks, just in time for my next paycheck, which I will probably use for its components.

Progress.

A quick update. Tubing, braze-ons, and dropouts were ordered tonight for Butter Prototype #1. It will be a 29" fixed gear, with full fenders and moustache bar. Front disc brake. Rear disc mount. Eccentric BB. Laid back enough to cruise, but not a cruiser. Quick enough to rock in traffic. A fun, versatile bike. Will make one grin while riding. 'Nuff Said.

Welcome!

Butter Bikes. What is it? Is it a Name? A Bike? A bike company? A tasty, creamy topping to put on toast or in potatoes? A way of life? A philosophy? Overt silliness?
Well, it's all these. And more. Big Mike and I are starting Butter Bikes with the intention of bringing the joy of cycling to the masses. You won't find any of our bikes in the Tour de France. You won't see skinny guys in Lycra astride a Butter on the Alp d'Huez. You probably won't spy a Butter on a Norba downhill course.
But outside a bar, under a hoochie mama in a tank top, outside an Olds 442 at a car show, making a b-double e-double-r-u-n on a Friday night, locked up outside a tattoo parlor, or on any college campus in this great nation you will soon expect to see Butter Bikes.
You see, we aren't trying to make the latest, hottest, lightest, most expensive bike at the bike shop. We are just a couple of cycling geeks who also happen to really like drinking beer and watching sprint cars on Friday nights. We also feel that the key to a happy life is to ride a bike whenever possible, and to use them for whatever errands pop up during the day. We ride to work, to the grocery store, to the jazz show, and to the farmer's market. We ride to the bar at night, use 'em to grab beers at the corner store at 2:30 in the morning and the keg's tapped. We use 'em to take home that cute brunette on the handlebars.

Life is better with Butter.

So check back often, things are moving quickly. Shirts will soon be available. Pictures and videos of our prototypes will be posted in the next few weeks.
